This is the 20th exhibition in three years: Since May 3, 2026, the Fotografie & Kommunikation Hannover e.V. association has been presenting the photo exhibition “Carnival in Venice” by photographer Wolfgang Niess in the KunstGang of the Hannover Medical School (MHH), thereby celebrating a small anniversary.

The photo exhibition “Carnival in Venice” explores the rich history and cultural significance of the Venetian Carnival. First mentioned in the chronicles of Doge Vitale Falier in 1094, the Carnival in Venice has a long tradition. The oldest documented mention of a mask dates back to the 13th century and refers to a guild procession.

Wolfgang Niess’s exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the Venetian Carnival and experience the cultural facets of this unique tradition through the photographer’s lens. The exhibition is sponsored by the Italian Consulate General in Hanover. The exhibition’s cooperation partner is the German-Italian Cultural Society e.V.

The exhibition is on view daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. until the end of June 2026 in the KunstGang at MHH, easily accessible via the Clinical Department’s main entrance.

Photo Exhibitions by the Photography & Communications Association in the MHH Art Gallery

Since 2023, the Photography & Communications Association has organized several annual photo exhibitions in the MHH Art Corridor. The goal is to use art to create a positive atmosphere in the hospital—for both patients and visitors. The exhibition is open to the public during the Clinical Department’s hours of operation; admission is free.
