The new bachelor’s degree program offered by LUH and MHH combines engineering and medicine in a practice-oriented curriculum.
The exciting combination of engineering and medicine: Students in the new Medical Technology study programme focus on this intersection. The six-semester bachelor’s program is jointly offered by Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and Hannover Medical School (MHH) and will begin in the winter semester of 2026/2027. It currently has no admission restrictions, so enrollment is possible until September 30, 2026.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics in medicine, working with stem cells, or the development of new, innovative walking aids for people who cannot walk: these are just a few of the highly topical areas covered in the program. The goal is to acquire practical knowledge in the fields of medicine and technology for a wide range of medical technology solutions—from prevention and diagnostics to therapy and follow-up care. Ethical, legal, and regulatory issues, quality management, and approval processes for medical devices are also part of the program.
The program begins by focusing primarily on teaching foundational knowledge. At MHH, students learn the anatomical and physiological fundamentals as well as clinical applications, while the wide range of technical subjects is taught at LUH. Starting in the fourth semester, students can concentrate on different areas of specialization. Study abroad opportunities are also available. Additionally, some modules of the program will be taught in English.
Career opportunities include positions at research centers, Clinical Departments, and companies that manufacture medical devices. The bachelor’s degree also qualifies students for a subsequent master’s program, such as in biomedical engineering and many areas of mechanical engineering.
