Hannover Medical School (MHH) has prepared a very special offer for everyone in the Hannover region that has never been seen before in this form: As "MHH - very close!", MHH is presenting itself from 6 to 10 February 2024 in the middle of Hanover's city centre in the so-called aufhof. "We are very much looking forward to this great opportunity to present MHH as a family-friendly university and attractive employer, as a maximum-care hospital and excellent research centre," says MHH President Prof. Dr Michael Manns. "There is medicine to touch, try out and participate in and a programme with more than 200 events and lectures over the five days."

Health weeks at aufhof

The aufhof was launched in summer 2023 as an experiment in the creative interim use of the previously closed department stores', initiated by the City of Hanover, Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Hannover Impuls and other supporters. Since then, the ground floor of the former Kaufhof building in Schmiedestraße has been an experimental space for new impulses, discussions and ideas for the future. This February, the aufhof will be transformed into a hotspot for health - and of course this will not happen without the involvement of the MHH.

A full programme for five days

In order to be able to show as much as possible of the enormous range of MHH in the areas of patient care, research, teaching and careers, we have given each of the five days a focal point. Among other things, visitors will find out what is possible with implant research and how they can organise their everyday lives in a healthy way. At many stands, there will be plenty of information on topics such as nutrition, exercise, cancer prevention and chronic diseases. There will also be various lectures and hands-on activities every day.

More than 200 lectures, workshops, film screenings and activities

We discuss controversial health topics such as cannabis in medicine and organ donation with people. And we present ourselves as an attractive employer with the training campus, academic career development and, for example, job speed dating. The complete programme with 82 lectures and workshops as well as 121 activities at the stands can be found on the MHH website at: www.mhh.de/aufhof

Opening with celebrities and a science slam

The official opening of the MHH Week in the courtyard will take place on Tuesday, 6 February 2024, with MHH President Prof. Dr Michael Manns, Lower Saxony's Minister for Social Affairs, Labour, Health and Equality Dr Andreas Philippi and Hanover's Lord Mayor Belit Onay. The kick-off event will feature knowledge to go with science slammer Felix Stegmann. MHH doctor Dr Johanna Doll-Lee will provide musical accompaniment on the grand piano. The opening event starts at 5 pm.

"Organ donation? Make up your mind! We talk about what to consider." Under this title, Dr Bastian Schmack from the MHH Clinic for Cardiothoracic, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery, Dr Gerald Neitzke from the MHH Institute for Ethics and History of Medicine and Michael Gertzmann, who received a lung transplant in 2020, will discuss this topic with the audience on Thursday, 8 February 2024.
