Of all people, two non-immunologists have made it onto the list of the most cited minds in German-language immunology research: MHH pneumologist Professor Dr Tobias Welte came sixth, while MHH haematologist Professor Dr Arnold Ganser, who will retire in 2022, came ninth. The analysis of the journal "Laborjournal" takes into account articles from the years 2012 to 2021 with at least one author with an address in the German-speaking world. The figures for citations and articles come from the "Web of Science" database from Clarivate Analytics.

The decisive factor for the list of "heads" was not only work at an institute in the field, but also publications in immunological journals. The database creators were therefore primarily interested in the output of articles in immunological journals. "Here, the absolute number should speak for itself and also include a large proportion of the research activity," the "Laborjournal" explains. The Director of the MHH Clinic for Pneumology and Infectiology with 18,455 citations and the former Director of the Clinic for Haematology, Haemostaseology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation with 14,697 citations made it into the top ten.

The "Laborjournal" is a service magazine for medicine and biosciences and contains news from the field of biological and medical research, among other things.
