Midwives begin their careers: 23 graduates of the Bachelor’s program in Midwifery Science at Hannover Medical School (MHH) have successfully completed their studies. This marks the second cohort to complete the midwifery program at MHH. In March, instructors and midwives from MHH and the hospital network bid farewell to the new colleagues during an academic ceremony at MHH. Prof. Dr. Mechthild Groß, the program director, presented them with their certificates.

“The birth of a child is a very special event for every young family. That is why I am delighted that we have the opportunity to get to know every student in the Midwifery Science program and support them in realizing their personal potential,” emphasized Professor Groß. Together with instructors Britta Berkau, Theresa Happe, Renata Janiszewski, and Ulrike Voigt, she congratulated the new graduates and wished them many rewarding experiences and wonderful moments on their professional journey.

MHH promotes the academicization of health professions with a Bachelor’s program

In January 2020, the Bundestag and Bundesrat decided to transfer midwifery training to universities in accordance with the EU directive. As early as October 2021, the first students began the Bachelor’s study programme in Midwifery Science at MHH. In doing so, MHH actively participated from the outset in the introduction of this study programme and the associated academization of the health professions. Students can practice their practical skills in the Midwifery SkillsLab, which was set up specifically for this purpose.
