Prof. Dr. Dr. Philipp Beerbaum began his medical career by studying medicine in Cologne. He also completed his specialist training in pediatric and adolescent medicine there. In 1996, he moved to the Heart and Diabetes Center NRW in Bad Oeynhausen for further training in pediatric cardiology and pediatric intensive care medicine.

From 2001, he headed the cardiovascular MRI working group and the interdisciplinary outpatient clinic for adults with congenital heart defects as a senior physician. Since 2002, he has been involved in the establishment of the "Competence Network for Congenital Heart Defects" with several multicenter studies.

In 2007, Professor Beerbaum was appointed Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Cardiovascular Science at King's College London in England. He worked clinically in London as a pediatric cardiologist at Evelina Children's Hospital and headed the cardio-MRI service for congenital heart defects.

In 2011, Professor Beerbaum worked for a short time at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands, before being appointed Professor of Pediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Hannover Medical School in 2012.

His research focuses on all non-invasive imaging procedures in the field of congenital heart defects - including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography.

Under the direction of Professor Beerbaum and in cooperation with the cardiothoracic surgeons, the Clinical Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine has developed into one of the largest centers for the treatment of patients with congenital heart defects of all age groups in Germany. In addition to providing excellent cardiological and intensive medical care, Prof. Beerbaum is particularly interested in expanding activities in the area of EMAH patients (adults with congenital heart defects) and expanding prenatal consultation.
