This is how the training is structured

The training lasts 3 years and comprises 4450 hours.
This includes 3050 hours of theoretical and practical instruction and 1400 hours of practical training.

Subjects taught:

The most important subjects are

  • Dietetics
  • Dietetics in theory and practice with teaching kitchen lessons
  • Anatomy/physiology and biochemistry of nutrition
  • Pathology and nutrition therapy
  • Cooking and kitchen technology with lots of practical lessons in the training kitchen
  • Organization of kitchen operations in theory and practice
  • Food science with practice-oriented product knowledge
  • Nutrition and dietary advice with practical assignments and exercises
  • Hygiene/toxicology and legal studies

 

The practical training:

You will complete around 10 internships in different areas of work and thus get to know the entire spectrum of dieticians in their day-to-day work.
Most of the practical training takes place at the Medical School. Around 20 dieticians work here in very different fields of activity.
The internships are carried out in the following areas of work:

  • In the canteen kitchen area (dietetic care of patients)
  • In diet and nutrition counseling (inpatient and outpatient counseling)
  • In the MHH children's clinic (dietary advice for parents and children)
  • In the nutrition team (artificial nutritional medical care)
  • In the inpatient area (Center for Internal Medicine)

 

External internships

These are carried out in cooperation with the Klinikum Region Hannover GmbH, among others.
Private Clinical Departments such as the Health Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation in Hanover also offer the opportunity to gain practical experience.
At the request of our trainees, we also offer internships outside the region, e.g. at

  • Clinic Braunschweig
  • Celle General Hospital
  • St. Berward Hospital and Helios Clinic Hildesheim
  • Rehabilitation clinics in Lower Saxony and NRW
  • Diabetes specialist practices in Hanover and the surrounding area
  • Self-employed dieticians and oecotrophologists
  • Also possible within the EU with the Erasmus+ program

 

The training objective:

The training is regulated by law and is completed with a written, practical and oral examination before a state Examination Board.
You will acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities you need to independently carry out and nutritional medicine measures.
Your nutritional medical diagnosisin addition to the medical diagnosis, is the basis for your involvement in the treatment of various chronic illnesses.

The professional law for state-recognized dieticians allows you to set up and work independently!
