Study structure for the current Public Health study programmes

The curriculum of the study programmes is based on national and international objectives of public health education at Master's level, which have been formulated by the German Society for Public Health and the European Association of Schools of Public Health, among others.

Mandatory basic subjects have also been defined here, which are compulsory for all graduates in the first semester modules of the Master's degree program in Population Medicine and Public Health (Public Health). These include the following modules:

After the foundation course, students complete an obligatory professional internship over a period of 8 weeks (10 CP). This internship is accompanied by an introductory seminar on project management and reflection phases. The internship can be carried out in all public health-relevant institutions in Germany and abroad. The numerous cooperation structures that have developed between the Public Health study programs and various Facilities or Institutions from research, practice and administration can be used for this.

In the further course of the second semester, students can choose four modules from a range of nine compulsory elective modules of 5 CP each, which form the background for their individual focus. The modules offer a deepening of

1) methodological skills in the analysis and acquisition of data

2) special knowledge of management, economics and health policy

3) prevention and patient orientation in the healthcare system and

4) international comparative health care issues

Duration of study

The 90 ECTS credits course can be completed as a full-time course in 2 semesters plus 1 semester for the Master's thesis, with attendance time of approx. 8 - 9 months.

Part-time study is also possible.

As part of a part-time course, students often take either the morning or afternoon modules, completing part of the compulsory modules in the first year of study and then the other modules in the second year.

For example: Modules 1, 3 and 6 take place in the morning in the first year of study, then in the afternoon in the next year and again in the morning in the third year.

Here you will find an example of how it works.
