You can find further information at: www.deutsche-leberstiftung.de
The German Liver Foundation is concerned with the liver and liver diseases, their diagnosis and treatment. It has been improving the chances of recovery from liver disease and the quality of life of patients for over ten years. To this end, the German Liver Foundation has set itself the following goals:
- Improving patient care
- increasing public awareness of liver diseases
- to promote horizontal and vertical research networking
- the rapid generation and transfer of knowledge
With funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Hepatitis Competence Network has been supported as one of the competence networks in medicine since 2002. The Hepatitis Competence Network established a horizontal and vertical network that enabled an interdisciplinary focus on the central issues of medical care and research.
Based on the Hepatitis Competence Network, the German Liver Foundation was founded at the end of 2006. The successful alliance achieved to date was thus continued after the end of state support.
Scientific projects
The German Liver Foundation is the sponsor of the "Hepatitis Competence Network" and its projects. These include the HepNet Study House, which conducts studies and registers to improve the treatment of liver diseases.
To improve the care of people with liver disease, the German Liver Foundation carries out its own scientific projects and supports projects in other institutions. Further information can be found here.
Research funding
The German Liver Foundation promotes research in the field of the liver and liver diseases. To this end, the foundation awards grants for research networking and for the preparation of clinical studies and projects. Every year, the "German Liver Foundation Prize" is awarded to an outstanding publication in the field of hepatology. Further information can be found here.
Research networking
One focus of the foundation is to promote research into all liver diseases through research networking. The "HepNet Journal", published by the foundation, appears twice a year and is dedicated to the entire spectrum of liver research.
The "HepNet Symposium" of the German Liver Foundation takes place annually. It provides a forum for researchers and physicians to discuss the latest research findings and treatment options in their field.
Information and advice
The German Liver Foundation provides information about the liver and liver diseases in various publications. These include leaflets such as "Liver and liver values", "Liver and fat", "Liver and alcohol", "Liver and cancer" and "Liver and transplantation". The foundation also offers a brochure on "Liver diseases and nutrition" and leaflets on hepatitis B and C. All information material can be found here.
"The Liver Book", published by the German Liver Foundation, provides comprehensive and easy-to-understand information about the functions of the liver, possible diseases and treatments.
In the telephone consultation hours of the German Liver Foundation, experts answer all questions about liver diseases.
Public relations work
One of the tasks of the German Liver Foundation is public relations work to provide information about liver diseases. Liver diseases often remain undetected and therefore untreated, which can lead to liver cirrhosis and liver cell cancer. Greater awareness is very important to improve early detection. You can find our press releases and further information here.
Network
The German Liver Foundation has created a nationwide network of associated physicians, Clinical Departments, scientists, pharmacists and self-help groups. This means that those affected can quickly and easily find a competent local contact.
