Supra-regional trauma center
The Department of Trauma Surgery is certified by the German Society for Trauma Surgery as a supra-regional trauma center. Furthermore, the Clinical Department has been admitted by the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) to participate in the most severely injured type procedure in the accident insurance association's treatment procedure.
The supra-regional trauma center of Hannover Medical School continues to be characterized by the treatment focus of the Clinical Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery (PÄHW). These include the treatment of severe burn injuries in Lower Saxony's only burn injury center, hand and replantation surgery as well as complex microsurgical reconstructions. The Clinical Department of Plastic Surgery has European certifications as a Burn Injury Center (EBA) and Hand Trauma Center (FESSH). The Clinical Department ensures that at least three hand surgeons are available.
The Clinical Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is also involved as a partner in the MHH Trauma Center for complex skull and facial injuries and is closely linked to all interdisciplinary head disciplines as well as the Clinical Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery via the accredited Skull Base Center at the MHH, both in the traumatological treatment chain on the part of trauma surgery coordination and as a head specialist. This close cooperation complements the range of care with high-end innovations beyond acute care. These include all reconstructive measures in the oral and maxillofacial region.
With this particular breadth of cooperation with the burns injury center, replantation surgery and rehabilitation, our trauma center has an absolutely unique selling point in Lower Saxony.
