The team at the Clinical Department has proven expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of localized and advanced testicular tumors as well as renal cell carcinoma.

Although testicular tumors are highly treatable cancers, there are still many deaths today that can be attributed to treatment errors on the part of the primary therapist as well as delayed diagnosis on the part of the patient.

Against this background, German and other European expert groups have developed binding treatment guidelines for the treatment of testicular tumor patients, which can be extremely complex depending on the respective clinical situation. At the same time, so-called "second opinion centers" were established, which are provided by the members of these expert committees. One of these centers is the Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at the MHH. This gives patients and physicians in private practice the opportunity to have the treatment plan drawn up for the individual patient checked for conclusiveness and conformity with the guidelines and, if necessary, to obtain additional treatment recommendations.

The aim of these individual treatment recommendations, which are adapted to the guidelines, is above all to keep the intensity of the therapy as low as possible in order to reduce its side effects for the affected young men, especially in the long-term course, without jeopardizing the effectiveness of the treatment.

The Clinical Department of Urology and Urological Oncology is a designated second opinion center in the field of testicular tumors and renal cell carcinoma. It is part of the network of the German Testicular Tumor Study Group (GTCSG).
