Maria Bonin has been a research associate at the Institute of General Medicine and Palliative Medicine since January 2024. She is working on the project "End-of-life care during the pandemic: Experiences of relatives and their psychological stress with a focus on migration background (EMBRACE-ME)" as well as in the team of Prof. Dr. rer. medic. Stephanie Stiel.

Maria Bonin completed the "Interventions in Childhood" study programmes at Jönköping University (Sweden) in 2023 with a Master of Science in Child Studies. Maria Bonin's two master's theses focused on bereavement support for children with autism spectrum disorder and/or intellectual disabilities and psychosocial support for children with intellectual disabilities in pediatric palliative care. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Special Education and Russian at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Before and during her studies, Maria Bonin worked as a volunteer in hospices for children and adults in Berlin and Belarus.
