PD Dr. med. Carsten Stoetzer

PD Dr. med. Carsten Stoetzer is a specialist in general medicine and a specialist in anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain, palliative and emergency medicine as well as manual medicine. He studied medicine at the MHH and completed his doctorate in the Department of Functional and Applied Anatomy. Until 2016, Carsten Stoetzer worked as an assistant and specialist in the Clinical Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the MHH before moving to the Helios Klinikum Hildesheim. Here, he took over as medical director of the interdisciplinary pain clinic in 2017.
In 2019, Carsten Stoetzer returned to the Clinical Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at MHH. During his time in anaesthesiology, his scientific interest was in basic research. In particular, he investigated the effects of various drugs on neuronal sodium channels. In 2016, Carsten Stoetzer was awarded the Friedrich and Alida Gehrke Prize for Experimental Pain Research for his work.
In October 2018, Carsten Stoetzer was awarded the venia legendi for anesthesiology. The title of his habilitation thesis is "The relevance of voltage-gated sodium channels for the generation of drug-induced cardiac arrhythmias."
During his work at the MHH, Carsten Stoetzer was deployed in all areas of anesthesiology, intensive care medicine and the acute pain service and also worked as an emergency physician on the emergency medical vehicles, the intensive care transport vehicles and the intensive care transfer helicopter Christoph Niedersachsen.
Mr. Stoetzer completed his general medical training in Wettbergen and Linden. He also works as a physician for the care of prisoners in a penal institution.
Carsten Stoetzer's scientific work focuses on issues relating to the interfaces between general and Emergency Medicine, rescue services and emergency departments. He also focuses on the medical care of trans* people.
Since October 2022, Carsten Stoetzer has been supporting our Institute in various areas as an associate staff member and teaching physician.
