Olaf Krause studied medicine at Hannover Medical School (MHH), where he completed his doctorate at the Institute of General Medicine under Prof. Dr. G. Fischer.

He began his medical training at the Vinzenzkrankenhaus Hannover (Chief Physician PD Dr. Hepp) and became an internist and cardiologist, while also working as a locum in GP practices. This was followed by a position as senior physician in the Clinical Department of Internal Medicine at Hannover Nordstadt Hospital (CA Prof. Dr. Dr. J. Hensen, 2007-2012). Since 2013, he has been a senior physician at the Center for Medicine in Old Age at the Henriettenstiftung Hannover under Prof. Dr. K. Hager, where he continues to work half-time. He has completed his further training in geriatrics.

In 2014, Mr. Krause returned to the Institute of General Medicine at the MHH with a half-time position as a senior physician. His clinical focus is on emergency admissions, geriatric consultations and multi-medication advice. In teaching, he is responsible for the interdisciplinary subject of geriatrics.

In the area of research, Olaf Krause works at the interface between general medicine and geriatrics, e.g. on questions of polypharmacy in old age. He is jointly responsible for the HIOPP-3 consortium project.

In July 2020, he was appointed associate professor by the MHH and received the Venia Legendi for Internal Medicine. The title of his habilitation thesis is "Polypharmacy and drug therapy safety in elderly people in GP practices, nursing homes and hospitals - problems and solutions".

He works part-time as an emergency physician at the Red Cross in Burgwedel.

Since April 1, 2021, Olaf Krause has been Chief Physician at the Center for Medicine in Old Age at the Henriettenstiftung Hannover.
