Stephanie Stiel has been a research associate at the Institute ofGeneral Medicine and Palliative Medicine since March 2017 and was Head of Research from 2019-2023. She has held the W2 professorship for health services research at the Institute since 2023.

Ms. Stiel studied psychology at Bielefeld University from 2001-2006. She then worked from 2007-2011 as a research assistant in the Clinical Department for Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen, where she completed her doctorate in 2010 on the topic of "Patients' wishes for active euthanasia in palliative care units".

From 2011-2017, she worked in the Department of Palliative Medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where she headed the research unit, habilitated in 2013 on the topic of "Possibilities and limits of qualitative and quantitative assessments of the seriously ill and dying" and received her teaching license for palliative medicine.

Her research focuses on interdisciplinary and multi-professional care research with patients at the end of life and their relatives.
