EMBRACE-ME : Les soins de fin de vie pendant la pandémie : le vécu par les proches et leur détresse psychologique, notamment auprès de la population issue de la migration

Context

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has severely affected the care and support provided to morbid patients by their relatives. Little research has been carried out on the long-term consequences for the relatives of a person who has died in pandemic conditions and on the links between this condition and anxiety, depression and depression. Restrictions in terms of support for the terminally ill, enteral care and private support options can make the depression process more difficult. In many areas, people affected by immigration have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic. It is still uncertain whether this also applies to end-of-life and after-death care.

Objectives

The objective of the project is to assess the health care needs of people at the end of life during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic from the point of view of their relatives and to establish the links with anxiety, depression and depression among these people. Immigration issues are the subject of special attention.

The following questions are at the top of the list:

Comment les proches ont-ils vécu les derniers moments du patient pendant la pandémie ?

Comment les proches ont-ils vécu leur processus de deuil pendant la pandémie ? What are the links perceived between the experience of the last days of life and the individual deuil process?

To what extent are there differences in the comparison between the patients' relatives who are not immigrants and those who are not?

Methods

The qualitative exploratory study collects qualitative data by means of guided interviews with 25 to 30 survivors of immigration or not. The data from the interviews allow for a broad and in-depth understanding of the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on the care of people at the end of life and on the process of deuil of the prostitutes.

Pertinence of the results awaited

The qualitative analysis makes it possible to identify the restrictions associated with pandemic palliative care and their impact on the end-of-life process by recalling the experiences of the patients. The qualitative approach of the research allows to explore, through non-direct interviews, which end-of-life support and assistance in the end-of-life process can be useful to face the challenges of pandemia. The results of the study will be discussed in workshops with the members of the network of care providers, friends and members of communities and migrant organizations with a view to developing a more detailed project proposal.

Financing
