From the green field to the golden exam anniversary

On October 3, 2020, the MHH-Alumni e.V. celebrated the first golden exam anniversary of the MHH. Professor Siegfried Piepenbrock, Chairman of the association, welcomed twelve alumni to this occasion in Lecture Hall F at the MHH in a small group and with due distance.

If you start your studies on the same day that the university itself starts teaching, then that is something special. 41 young people came to Hannover in 1965 to become part of a new, modern and progressive Hannover Medical School with flat hierarchies. At that time, however, the building was still in its infancy and large parts of the campus were still wasteland and green fields. The majority of courses were held all over the city because there was simply not enough space on the MHH site.

"Spontaneity and improvisation were not only required from all sides in terms of space, there was also a lot of dynamism in terms of content," says Professor Gerhard Sybrecht, who celebrated his graduation and remained loyal to the MHH after his studies until the mid-1980s, before accepting a call to the University Hospital of Homburg/Saar. "What I particularly appreciated about the MHH was the interdisciplinary exchange that was nurtured here in an unmistakable way. The credo 'Science means talking to each other' was really lived here."

34 of the first students graduated in 1970. Some have unfortunately passed away in the meantime, others were unable to attend. But the twelve graduates who gathered in lecture hall F for the ceremony clearly showed the emotion and pride with which they look back on their time as students.

Our heartfelt congratulations on their golden exams!
