Gnotobiotic laboratory
The pathophysiology of many mouse and rat models is not solely the result of gene function, but requires a combination of gene function and intestinal flora as an environmental factor. The analysis of the effect of individual pathogens, as well as the combination of different pathogens in vivo and the elucidation of the interaction between intestinal flora and host is therefore of essential importance for future research. In the gnotobiology laboratory, germ-free (axenic) animals or animals associated with a defined flora (gnotobiotic) are generated and kept (mouse, rat). The animals are kept in isolators, which are operated as negative or positive pressure isolators as required.
The following methods are available:
- Caesarean section with subsequent nurse rearing in mice and rats (gnotobiology laboratory)
- Association experiments with various pathogens
