The Central Animal Laboratory of the MHH is traditionally characterized by a holistic concept. On the one hand, various animal species are kept in barriers and hygienic units for the research groups and made available for research; on the other hand, animal husbandry is supplemented by scientific expertise. This includes laboratory animal medical care, quality assurance and animal welfare. In addition to monitoring and service activities, competitive research is carried out in all areas and the latest findings are transferred directly to animal husbandry.
We offer MHH researchers support in planning experiments and advise them on all animal experiment-related methodological and animal welfare issues. To ensure quality and in particular the health and well-being of the laboratory animals, genetic and microbiological monitoring is carried out continuously in our monitoring laboratories. Embryo transfer or caesarean section are available for the hygienic sanitation of mouse and rat strains. Cryopreservation of embryos, sperm and ovarian tissue is established for the archiving and safeguarding of mouse and rat strains.
An extensive operating area is available for surgical procedures on laboratory animals. The integrated small animal imaging center at the ZTL is new. Our expertise in pathohistological examinations is also at your disposal.
The extensive mouse colonies and breeding projects are managed in some areas via a database system, which speeds up Communications between animal keepers and scientists and documents the order system in a standardized way.
