Oncology Nursing Consultation Service (OPK)
For patients
The oncological care consultation service (OPK) offers additional support during inpatient stays at the Medical School. A cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event. We accompany you during your illness and can support you with the necessary Nursing and treatment. It is important to us that you are able to understand and actively participate in the treatment process.
We can advise you on the following changes/issues, among others:
- Eating habits and changes in taste
- Fatigue
- Skin and mucous membrane changes
- Digestive problems
- Visual changes
- Anxiety and uncertainty
- Connection to psycho-oncologists
- Mediation of assistance with applications for disability cards, REHA, care degree, living wills, health care proxy
- Mediation of self-help groups

For relatives
A diagnosis of cancer can also change many things for relatives. You have the opportunity to receive individual nursing advice on various issues.
We can advise you on the following topics:
- organizational issues
- Organization of care at home
- arranging psycho-oncology
- Making appointments or contacting in-house services and more.
Our tasks:
- Determination of symptoms and symptom intensity
- Determining needs in the event of restrictions
- Care advice
- Advice for family members and relatives
- Carrying out care visits
- Referral to in-house services (psycho-oncology, nutritional advice, social services, pastoral care, etc.)
- Assistance with organizational issues
- Representation of patient interests and needs in cooperation with all professional groups involved
