Cardiology intensive care unit (Ward 24B)
Emergency internal medicine care is provided around the clock by at least one specialist in internal medicine and several junior physicians. Each patient is evaluated to determine whether he or she requires consultation with or takeover by another specialist department.

Treatment figures of the ZNA
The MHH Central Emergency Room now treats 70,000 cases per year, of which almost 11,000 are internal medicine cases, which in turn require inpatient treatment in just over half of all cases.
Almost 40% of internal medicine cases are brought to the MHH Central Emergency Room by the ambulance service, of which one tenth fall into viewing category 1 (acute vital threat). The most common patient referral codes recorded in the IVENA electronic care record are
- 320 Other internal emergency (used unspecifically for all unclear clinical pictures, 20% of all cases brought by the ambulance service)
- 333 Acute coronary syndrome

- 322 Syncope/collapse
