Newborn and premature infants ward

Ward 69

Together with the Clinic for Obstetrics and Gynecology the Neonatology (premature and newborn medicine) forms a
Perinatal Center Level 1, which corresponds to the highest level of care in perinatal medicine. In the case of a high-risk pregnancy, the mother and the unborn child are cared for together by obstetricians and pediatricians as part of a differentiated prenatal diagnostic procedure during pregnancy. This interdisciplinary cooperation also ensures that the flow of information at the interface between obstetrics and pediatric clinic functions at an optimum.

Neonatology consists of the premature and neonatal intensive care unit (10 respiratory beds), the high care unit (14 intensive care monitoring beds) and the normal ward for babies who are already stable and can be cared for in many areas by their parents.

Our highly specialized and dedicated team of doctors and pediatric nurses take care of the patients with a lot of experience and intensive attention. The latest technology and modern equipment on the ward ensure first-class medical and highly competent care. When treating the little patients, we work together with the other clinics and institutes of the Hannover Medical School, such as Pediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology. In the field of paediatrics, we are assisted by specialists from the fields of pulmonology, nephrology, gastroenterology, cardiology, neuropaediatrics and metabolic medicine and hepatology, among others.

In addition to the highly specialized medical care, the developmentally supportive care of premature and newborn babies as well as the psychosocial support of their parents are of great importance in our daily work.

In addition to inpatient care, we offer an outpatient clinic for the aftercare of premature infants and newborns with long-term medical needs.
