Emergency care

Our Clinical Department is on call around the clock for ophthalmological emergencies. For less serious cases, we refer you to the emergency services offered by the emergency medical service. If necessary, a referral to our Clinical Department can be issued from there. In the case of occupational accidents, eye injuries, acute loss of vision and other situations that you experience as acute and threatening, we are of course also there for you directly.

Please report to the Central Emergency Room as an emergency first. On weekdays between 7.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. you will be forwarded from there to our outpatient clinic, where a file will be created specifically for your case, preliminary examinations may already be taking place and you will then be called by the physician treating you. After 4 p.m., at weekends and on public holidays, your file will be issued directly in the emergency room and the duty physician will be notified. You will be examined either directly in the Central Emergency Room or on our Ward 47.

Please understand that the order in which you are called depends on the reported severity of the illness. At weekends in particular, patients who are not acutely at risk of blindness may have to wait longer until 2 p.m., as our inpatients are given priority during this time. In the case of serious injuries and acute visual impairment, you will of course also be examined quickly during this period.
