Information for patients
As an emergency, please report to the Central Emergency Room first. On weekdays between 7.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. you will be forwarded from there to our outpatient clinic, where a file will be created specifically for your case, preliminary examinations may already be taking place and you will then be called by the attending physician. After 4 p.m., at weekends and on public holidays, your file will be issued directly in the emergency room and you will be treated on site.
Due to the current high volume of emergencies with complex issues, please allow for long waiting times.
If you are an appointment patient, your ophthalmologist or general practitioner has already registered you with us. Please bring your health insurance card and your specialist referral with you to your appointment. If you have not been treated at the MHH in recent years, please first register at the central patient admission desk (at the main entrance). If you have already received treatment at the MHH, you can register directly at the Ophthalmology Registration Desk (Building K02 (Polyclinics), Outpatient Clinic 4).
At your first appointment, an (electronic) file will be created for you so that all findings can be documented and sorted there in future. You will then be forwarded to the outpatient nurses, who will carry out preliminary examinations if necessary. Your attending physician will then examine you in detail, request further special examinations if necessary and finally discuss all findings with you and a senior physician. By applying the four-eyes principle from the medical side, we ensure the consistently high quality of our treatment.
If you are already known to us as a patient, the part with the preliminary examinations is omitted; your file is retrieved directly from our archive and presented to your attending physician.
We always endeavor to ensure that all patients do not have to wait longer than necessary. Due to the current high volume of emergencies with complex issues, please allow for long waiting times.
We apologize for this.
If possible, please be at our Ward 47 by 09:00 on the day of your admission --> Here the team of ward 47 introduces itself
Where to find Ward 47: You will arrive at the planned inpatient admission. From the upper parking deck, go through the main entrance into the ward block. You will find the corridor to inpatient admission (level H) on the right-hand side. There you will be admitted to ward 47. Then go to Node C in the main building and take the elevator to the 7th floor. You will find Ward 47 on the right-hand side. If you need help, please contact the "blue ladies" in the entrance area or the information desk staff.
Please bring the following with you to the inpatient admission:
- identity card
- any patient ID cards (allergy, diabetes, anticoagulant ...)
- Address / telephone number of your contact person
- The referral form from your family physician
- Insurance card
- Written findings from your family physician or from previous examinations by other physicians
- Chest X-ray images, provided they are not older than two weeks
- A list of all medication you are currently taking. Please ask your family physician which medications you should continue to take and which you should discontinue. All heart medication should be continued up to and including the day of admission. So-called platelet aggregation inhibitors (e.g. Aspirin, ASS, Iscover) should be discontinued 5 days before the planned eye operation if possible. Metformin (oral antidiabetic) should be discontinued 48 hours before general anesthesia; Marcumar should be switched to heparin. As a general rule, do not discontinue any medication without consulting your physician.
- A medium-sized bag for your personal needs. In the acute phase (for the operation) you only need very few items. Washing utensils, possibly your own care products, slippers, closed shoes, light hospital clothing that is comfortable to wear, a bathrobe, personal aids if necessary. If possible, please do not bring any valuables or large amounts of money with you.
- Personal items that go beyond the above-mentioned requirements may be brought to you by your relatives in the second phase of your stay (after the operation).
Overall, you should limit yourself to necessary items, as there are only limited storage facilities at the MHH.
Who can I contact before admission? If you would like to make use of optional medical services (private patient), please inform the office (Ms. Schmidtmer, Tel.: +49 511 532-3061) before you are admitted as an inpatient.
Contact person: The nursing team on the ward will be informed of your arrival. You can hand in all your documents there and will then be passed on to the nursing staff responsible for you. Please be patient if you cannot move into your room on the ward immediately. Other patients often have to be discharged first.
Patient rooms: Our ward has two single rooms, which are usually occupied by isolation patients, four double rooms, two three-bed rooms, two four-bed rooms and two five-bed rooms, each equipped with a separate WC. Several showers are available for the ward. A patient sitting area with a balcony has been set up for you. You have the option of renting a telephone at your bedside, and you can also use the television. You will need a chip card to operate it, which you can purchase from the vending machine in the hall. The units used are debited from the memory card. A daily rental fee is charged for the use of the system. For more information, please refer to the brochure "MHH Patient Information", where the operation is described in detail. The use of cell phones is permitted on the ward.
Meals: You can choose your own meals from the weekly menu plan. Your room nurse or a trainee will then order your desired plan online in the kitchen. Cold drinks, fresh coffee and tea are available for you at all times opposite the patient seating area. You can also store your own food in the patient fridge. Please label your personal food with your name.
Visiting times: Medical rounds usually take place daily in the morning between 08:00 and 11:00.
IMPORTANT: Due to the current high number of emergencies, operations may have to be triaged and postponed. We ask for your understanding
