The Clinical Departments, Institutes and Departments of Head Medicine represent an essential part of patient care, research and teaching at Hannover Medical School. Diseases of the sensory organs, the nervous system, the upper respiratory and digestive tracts are among the main areas of focus. The close interrelationship of the head and neck organs forms the basis for the necessary interdisciplinary cooperation in diagnostics and therapy, research and teaching. The frequent diseases in the head area are often accompanied by functional disorders that require special procedures in diagnostics and treatment. The restoration of function is of particular importance, and implants are frequently used in this context.

Their development and improvement are the main focus of research. The Cluster of Excellence Hearing4all and the Center for Systemic Neuroscience in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and Leibniz University Hannover are an expression of scientific excellence. Head medicine is therefore a major focus of research at Hannover Medical School in the field of biomedical technology and medical implants.

Another focus is on tumor diseases, which require an interdisciplinary approach involving radiotherapy and oncology. Head and neck tumors and neuro-oncology are key areas of the MHH's certified Oncology Center.
