IFSG reporting obligation
Notes on notifications by name in accordance with the Infection Protection Act for clinically active physicians (in accordance with §6 IFSG)
(last updated on 07.11.2022)
Note:
The Infection Protection Act (IFSG) requires immediate notification by name to the responsible local health authority in certain cases. It has replaced various older legal provisions since 2001.
Among other things, the IfSG also legally regulates the obligation to report infectious diseases. The proper, complete and timely ("without delay": - the upper limit is 24 hours -) fulfillment of the reporting obligation is so central and important that the legislator has punished corresponding violations in §73 IfSG with a fine of € 2,500 to € 25,000. A range of information is required for proper reporting, which the person obliged to report (i.e. usually the physician) cannot easily obtain from the multiple cross-referenced sections 6, 8 and 9 IFSG. There are several versions of notification forms that have been developed by health authorities. In order to facilitate reporting at Hannover Medical School, we refer here to the forms designed by the Hannover Health Authority. In the appendix you will also find further information from our colleagues at the Health Department on how to complete the forms.

The list of pathogen detections in Section 7 IFSG must be reported by the examining laboratory physician. However, the laboratory physician is naturally dependent on information from the attending physician, as the organization chart also shows.
