Rheumatology Center Hannover Medical School
The tasks of a Rheumatology Center have been fulfilled at Hannover Medical School for many years. With effect from 01.01.2021, our center was included in the hospital plan. Eight internal rheumatologists currently work at the center. In addition to the care of complicated patients, the services provided by the rheumatologists at the center include rheumatology research, the preparation of SOPs and guidelines, further training and advising colleagues from Lower Saxony on questions relating to the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatism patients from abroad.
Network partners
The Rheumatology Center has cooperation agreements with several Clinical Departments in the Hannover region. However, it can be contacted by all colleagues from Lower Saxony with questions about patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, either by telephone (0511-5326656) or by e-mail(rheumatologie@mh-hannover.de).
The Rheumatology Center is involved in the Center of Excellence Musculoskeletal System (CEB), in which the Clinical Departments of Rheumatology and Immunology, Trauma Surgery, Orthopaedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine provide interdisciplinary treatment for patients with complex musculoskeletal disorders.
Special tasks
Case conferences are held every four weeks as part of the CEB. Cases can be nominated by the Clinical Departments involved in the CEB, but also by colleagues who cooperate with the Rheumatology Center. The cases are discussed on an interdisciplinary basis and the suggestions are recorded in a protocol.
Guidelines and SOPs
The Head of the Rheumatology Center (Prof. Dr. med. Torsten Witte) was involved in the following guidelines in 2021:
LL Management of cardiovascular comorbidities of systemic rheumatic diseases (still ongoing in 2022)
