Tic-Genetics

Study on the inheritance of tics

It has long been known that tics occur more frequently in some families. To date, however, it has not been possible to identify a specific gene (= hereditary trait) that actually causes tics. The aim of this study is to discover the genes that are responsible for the inheritance of tics.

We are looking for so-called parent-child trios, whereby the child should have Tourette syndrome or a tic disorder.

The parents should not have tics. Both children (2-17 years) and adults (18-99 years) with their two biological parents may take part in this study. By taking part, you are helping to uncover the causes of Tourette's syndrome so that new treatment options can be developed in the long term.
