After a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, their entire life changes abruptly. Affected children and adolescents as well as their parents and siblings are suddenly exposed to extraordinary stress and many new questions arise. Just as each child reacts individually to the diagnosis, each family member also deals with this type of illness differently. Depending on the illness and the treatment, the personal, family and school situation can change to varying degrees, either temporarily or permanently.
As a psychosocial team, we would like to be at your side to help you cope with this difficult situation as well as possible. In doing so, we provide a wide range of professional support, which is based entirely on the needs and wishes of our young patients and their families. We are available to you as a point of contact for the entire duration of your treatment, both inpatient and outpatient. We advise and support you in psychological, social and socio-legal matters. We take time for you to talk to us personally about worries, wishes and feelings that would otherwise not be expressed and could cause further stress. If necessary, we can refer you to further help outside of our Clinical Department.
Our educators also support the young patients in dealing with the emotional and social challenges that a serious illness brings with it. They create spaces in which distraction and a degree of normality are possible during the often stressful and intensive therapy period. Through individual and child-centered offers, children and adolescents are also accompanied and supported educationally in hospital and during the therapy phase. Educational activities such as creative activities, playing together, celebrating parties or joint activities are an integral part of the patients' stay in hospital. Individual arrangements can also be made with our educators, e.g. to look after a child, during a consultation in order to provide relief for parents.
