Tourette - Consultation hour

The Tourette's consultation at Hannover Medical School is a service for people who have or are suspected of having a tic disorder or Tourette's syndrome. We advise and treat people of all ages, i.e. children as well as adults.

The diagnosis of a tic disorder is made clinically on the basis of the patient's medical history and examination findings. A personal examination is therefore an essential prerequisite for a correct diagnostic classification.

The aim of an initial outpatient appointment, which usually lasts around 60 minutes, is to establish the correct diagnosis and provide comprehensive advice on all aspects of the disorder. We also offer advice for relatives or other caregivers. We also provide advice on issues relating to the inheritance of Tourette syndrome and the desire to have children.

We offer the entire spectrum of treatment for tic disorders, including behavioral therapy, medication and surgery. Of course, we also provide treatment for psychiatric comorbidities associated with tic disorder such as ADHD, OCD, depression, anxiety disorder and auto-aggressive behavior.

Over the past 15 years, more than 1100 children and adults with tic disorders have been treated in our consultation. This makes our consultation the largest of its kind in Germany.
