Important notes for emergencies

Blurred background. Three people in green surgical clothing with blue scrubs push a stretcher very quickly along a white corridor.

In an emergency situation, the Central Emergency Room at Hannover Medical School is your point of contact. If the symptoms are unclear, e.g. abdominal pain, an initial examination will be carried out there by the internal medicine colleagues on duty. If a surgical problem is suspected, we and possibly other specialist disciplines such as urology, gynecology, etc. will be consulted. In the case of a primarily visceral surgical cause of your complaints, a direct surgical presentation is of course also possible.

Emergency cases are treated strictly according to medical urgency (so-called "triage") and not according to waiting time. We are aware that nobody likes to wait - especially if there is a serious medical problem. Nevertheless, we ask for your understanding that there may be significantly longer waiting times, particularly when we are on call (i.e. evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays), if our service team is tied up with emergency operations, transplant procedures lasting several hours or the care of life-threatening patients in our intensive care unit.
