Exam joy in adverse times
On March 26, 2022, the MHH Alumni e.V. organized the examination ceremony for Human medicine in presence for the first time again. Around 80 newly graduated physicians, friends and family accepted the invitation to the Canteen of the MHH and spent an afternoon there that was as cheerful as it was thoughtful.
It was not Jan-Marc Bleck's first graduation ceremony at the MHH, but it was still a first. The singer and guitarist not only took to the stage as the musical highlight of the event, as he has often done before. This time, he was also able to receive his own exam certificate and rose and enjoy "his" exam ceremony from start to finish after the exertions of the exams.
First of all, Professor Siegfried Piepenbrock, Chairman of the Alumni Association, welcomed the guests in the bright sunshine, offered his congratulations and handed over to the Dean of Studies. Professor Ingo Just congratulated the new colleagues and then, as is customary at the party, presented awards to the MHH's best lecturers, who received their teaching awards from the Dean of Studies to the cheers and applause of the outgoing students.
In her graduation speech, graduate Hanna Spielmann took a realistic and optimistic view of a healthcare system that is far from perfect, but in which it is worth fighting for improvements despite all the existing shortcomings. "The world changes by your example, not by your opinion," she quoted Paul Coelho.
MHH President Professor Michael Manns also struck a thoughtful note. He praised the good cohesion at the MHH during the pandemic and also addressed the war in Ukraine, which Jan Marc Bleck and Marco Benduch (keyboard and cajon) took up musically with the title "Imagine" by John Lennon. Once written and recorded as a protest against the Vietnam War, the piece has lost none of its significance and emotional power to this day, emphasized Manns.
Even in these adverse times, however, the (justified) joy about what had been achieved and the excited look into the professional future, which had already begun for many due to the later date caused by the pandemic, prevailed. The graduation ceremony ended on a very successful and cheerful note with champagne and canapés.
