Anniversary in a double pack

On September 17, 2022, around 100 graduates of Human medicine celebrated a reunion with their alma mater after 25 years: the MHH Alumni e.V. had invited them to the silver jubilee of their exams.

The so-called Examen25 had to pause for two years due to the pandemic, but this fall there was finally a new start. The special thing about it: For the first time, two graduating years celebrated together, because in addition to the 1997 graduates, those who had completed their studies a year earlier had also been invited. This meant that at least some of the graduation anniversaries that were missed during the corona break could be made up for. What all participants had in common, however, was that the official end of their studies in the 1990s had consisted of pulling the envelope with their license to practice medicine out of the mailbox. A farewell ceremony with a ceremonial handover of certificates, as organized by MHH-Alumni e.V. for over 15 years now, did not exist back then. But this has now been made up for.

The day began with a tour of the MHH grounds. In several groups, students took the alumni to familiar places as well as to new Facilities or Institutions of the university. The exchange with the young medical professionals was almost as important as the visit to the skills lab, dissection room and former student café. After a coffee break, during which cell phones were pulled out, photos were shown and telephone numbers were exchanged, the ceremony began in lecture hall F.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Siegfried Piepenbrock, Chairman of the Alumni Association, welcomed the alumni and warmly congratulated them. With the words "Frank Jagdfeld has tidied up", he handed over the microphone to the jubilarian, who had found photos and documents from his studies in old moving boxes and now took his former fellow students on a short journey through time. Prof. Dr. Dr. Ingo Just, Dean of Studies, then took those present back to the present with an overview of today's degree courses. The highlight of the event was also waiting there: the ceremonial presentation of the anniversary certificates. In addition to the jubilarians themselves, the sounds of the Rare Tones, who provided the musical backdrop, ensured a good mood in the lecture hall.

Visibly elated, the jubilarians came together for the concluding dinner. There, they reminisced about the ups and downs of their studies 25 years ago in lively conversation and a nostalgic, cheerful mood - and hopefully made a note of the next important date at the MHH: the golden jubilee in 2047.
