Emergency Medicine module
Emergency Medicine is not only studied as a cross-sectional subject, but is also learned in everyday medical practice across disciplinary boundaries and across professional groups. For this reason, in addition to teaching emergency medicine knowledge in the lectures, the Emergency Medicine module places particular emphasis on practical training in the treatment of life-threatening disorders in realistic case studies.
In addition to 30 lectures on various topics relevant to Emergency Medicine, a three-day internship awaits you. Here you will have the opportunity to train measures and procedures in simulated scenarios in small groups. On the three practical training days, you will first practise basic techniques such as Basic Life Support (BLS), mask ventilation and airway management, diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, as well as electrotherapy (defibrillation) on special trainers in small groups. The measures learned are then applied in realistic scenarios using simulated phantoms in a team (Advanced Life Support). Medical backgrounds, aetiology, pathophysiology and guideline-based treatment or further inpatient treatment options are the subject of the debriefing sessions that take place in small groups following the scenarios.
The practical relevance of the teaching content and its implementation in the module is also reflected in the large number of awards. For example, the Emergency Medicine module was awarded the teaching prize for the best module of the 4th year of study 3 years in a row.
Our "Emergency script" is available for download in ILIAS (ILIAS ) to help you prepare for the emergency internship. To ensure that the internship runs smoothly, we recommend that you use this resource, even if your internship starts on the first day of the module. The current lecture slides are available in ILIAS for exam preparation. In addition, we recommend the following accompanying literature (available in the library or as an eBook):
- Pocket Atlas of Emergency Medicine, Thieme, 2016
- Emergency Medicine, Springer, 2016
- Rosen's Emergency Medicine: Concepts and Clinical Practice, Elsevier, 2017
Please take the opportunity to evaluate the individual lectures, the emergency internship and the entire module. Your feedback is important to us so that we can continue to adapt and improve our course. If you have any questions about the module, please contact the lecturers Mr. Sieg(Sieg.Lion@mh-hannover.de) or Dr. Eismann MME(Eismann.Hendrik@mh-hannover.de).
