Choir and orchestra rehearse for anniversary concert

60 years of MHH are a reason to celebrate! At least that's what the MHH Choir and the MHH Orchestra think and are therefore joining forces once again for a special concert experience.

At the anniversary concert on March 30 in the Neustadt Court and City Church, two famous works from the Romantic period will be presented: the fascinating musical fragment Symphony in B minor (The Unfinished, D759) by Franz Schubert and the German Requiem (op. 45) by Johannes Brahms. In order to do justice to this special occasion and the impressive works, the choir and orchestra went on a rehearsal weekend together for the first time at the beginning of March. The Landesmusikakademie Niedersachsen in Wolfenbüttel, which opened in 2009, provided the ideal setting to work on the program for the anniversary concert away from the daily hustle and bustle with its light-flooded ambience and numerous rehearsal rooms, which are also suitable for large orchestral ensembles.

The close connection between the MHH Choir and the MHH Orchestra is much more than a musical cooperation - it is an expression of a shared passion. Time and again, the two ensembles unite to tackle impressive large-scale projects that cannot be realized alone. The joint festive Christmas concert during the Advent season also inspires enthusiasm every year. The joint rehearsals, mutual inspiration and shared love of music make every concert something special. This not only creates music, but also a strong community in which students, employees, alumni and music enthusiasts from all over the Hanover region find an artistic home.

The MHH orchestra unites 65 active musicians who develop and perform great symphonic literature with great passion and high musical quality. The orchestra not only offers amateur musicians the opportunity to work together and play concerts, but also provides a solo platform for particularly talented orchestra members, MHH employees and professional musicians. This musical diversity is also reflected in the concerts: in three major projects per year, the orchestra delights its audience with special performances in unusual venues.

The choir, which currently has 85 members, also presents itself at a large number of concerts and events throughout the year. "I always find our Christmas singing on Christmas Day on the MHH wards for patients who can't be at home with their families particularly atmospheric," says tenor Prof. Dr. Dr. Gunnar Klein. The practicing cardiologist has been singing in the MHH choir for 22 years, first as a student, then as an employee and now as an external member. In addition to representatives from a wide range of medical professions within and outside the hospital, many other professional groups from academic and non-academic fields in the Hanover region also enrich the choir's membership. Ralf Nitsche, engineer and choir board member, emphasizes: "We value diversity and live inclusion, because the love of choral music unites us all!".

The Gesellschaft der Freunde supports the choir and orchestra with around €10,000 a year.
