New research center for artificial intelligence in medicine
15.11.2023
The Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB) is part of the Lower Saxony Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and Causal Methods in Medicine (CAIMed).
Researchers in computer science and medicine from Hanover, Göttingen and Braunschweig are developing innovative methods and applications of artificial intelligence.
"As the COVID-19 pandemic has recently shown, the HUB is a reliable hub for accessing biosamples, associated clinical data and molecular data. A high-quality database is an indispensable cornerstone for the development of AI-supported methods to improve patient care," says Prof. Dr. Thomas Illig, Head of the Hannover Unified Biobank, the central biobank of Hannover Medical School.
The Ministry of Science and Culture and the Volkswagen Foundation are providing 15 million euros for the research center over the next five years from the joint "zukunft.niedersachsen" program.
