The Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB) has received the BBMRI-ERIC "Quality Label" (according to DIN EN ISO 20387).

It is the first German biobank to receive the BBMRI-ERIC "Quality Label".

The BBMRI-ERIC audit program supports all biobanks within the BBMRI-ERIC network in having their biobank management systems assessed against the criteria of the international biobank standard ISO 20387. This assessment was carried out on site by qualified auditors from the national biobank network of the German Biobank Nodes (GBN).

During the "Europe Biobank Week 2025" in Bologna, the biobanks will be officially awarded the BBMRI-ERIC quality label as well as a certificate and a trophy.

The Hannover Unified Biobank (HUB) has achieved accreditation according to the standard DIN EN ISO 20387:2020 "Biotechnology - Biobanking - General requirements for biobanking", which was developed specifically for biobanks. Biobank HUB is the first university biobank in Germany that also stores liquid human biosamples to be accredited according to DIN EN ISO 20387:2020. The standard has been available in Germany since 2020.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Illig, Head of the HUB, emphasizes: "The accreditation is a clear sign of our commitment to excellent quality and continuous optimization. Our samples and data are a reliable basis for researchers."

Before the actual assessment by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS), the HUB underwent an intensive preparation process. This included a comprehensive review of the processes and documentation to ensure that all requirements of DIN EN ISO 20387:2020 were met.

Inga Bernemann, Quality Manager at the HUB, thanks the entire HUB team for the great cooperation and emphasizes once again that the support of the German Biobank Node (GBN) and the friendly audits have made a decisive contribution to optimizing the processes and successfully preparing the HUB for accreditation.

GBN Managing Director Dr. Cornelia Specht and Board Member PD Dr. Dr. Michael Kiehntopf congratulate the HUB on its success: "We congratulate the entire team on this outstanding achievement. We are very pleased that the HUB has achieved accreditation and that the GBN quality program was able to contribute to this." After the NCT Tissue Bank Heidelberg, the HUB is the second university Biobank in Germany to be accredited according to DIN EN ISO 20387:2020.
