The lecture series "Philosophy and Medicine", jointly organized by the AStA and the Institute of History, Ethics and Philosophy of Medicine at the MHH, will focus on the topic of gender diversity. Not only in everyday life, but also in medicine itself, the idea of a strict binary gender persists. According to this, there are biologically clearly distinguishable men and women. However, this conviction is not tenable either in everyday life or in medicine. The lecture series will show from different perspectives how this order of binary gender came about, how it is challenged by intersex and transgender, which social exclusions are created as a result and how these can be overcome.

In the first part, we will start with a historical classification of intersex and being trans in life science and medical contexts.

In the second part, following on from the historical explanations, we will deal specifically with the biological consideration of gender diversity, focusing in particular on the topic of intersexuality.

In the third part, we will then focus on the topic of health and gender with a look at healthcare for trans*people and the question of what is involved and where to start when it comes to reducing discrimination and improving healthcare for trans*people.

After short introductions and keynote speeches, the three events will provide space for exchange and discussion - we look forward to your questions and thoughts!

The events start at 18:00 and will take place online via MS Teams. You can access the online event here.
