The Forensic Institute of Toxicology focuses on the following areas:
- Detection of pharmaceuticals, drugs and toxins in body fluids, tissue samples and trace elements
- Expert opinions on forensic toxicological issues (e.g. cases of poisoning, fitness to drive or fitness to drive)
- Drug levels for clinical issues
- Alcohol and concomitant substance analysis
Special examinations
- Hair analyses and urine tests to prove freedom from drugs (fitness to drive, MPU)
- Hair analyses and urine tests for ethyl glucuronide (ETG) to prove abstinence (fitness to drive, MPU)
- Blood and urine tests for medical reports on cannabis use (fitness to drive)
- Drug detection for workplace testing / recruitment tests
- Cardiac glycosides using LC-MS-MS (e.g. digitoxin, digoxin, oleandrin and others)
- Opioids, antidepressants and neuroleptics by LC-MS-MS (e.g. buprenorphine, fentanyl, sufentanyl, doxepin, olanzapine, citalopram, zopiclone and others)
- Synthetic cannabinoids ("spice") using LC-MS-MS (e.g. JWH-018, JWH-122 and others)
- Other new psychoactive substances (NPS), in particular piperazines, cathinones and amphetamine derivatives from "bath salts", "legal highs" etc., using LC-MS-MS (e.g. methylone, MDPV, TFMPP and others)
