Neurovascular Center of the MHH

Supra-regional care for patients with neurovascular diseases at the MHH

The Neurovascular Center at Hannover Medical School (MHH) offers patients from Lower Saxony and beyond supra-regional, interdisciplinary care for acute and complex diseases of the vessels supplying the brain. At the center, all specialties involved in neurovascular treatment - neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, cardiology and vascular surgery - work closely together on an interdisciplinary basis.

The MHH is part of the ground and airborne emergency care system and guarantees specialized admission and diagnostics around the clock for patients with strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, vascular dissections or other acute neurovascular events. A Central Emergency Room, specialized stroke unit, a neurosurgical and interdisciplinary intensive care unit with a high level of expertise in the treatment of neurological patients, as well as state-of-the-art imaging (CT, MRI, angiography) are available at all times.

For complex therapies such as endovascular interventions, neurosurgical interventions or combination procedures, there is a 24/7 intervention and surgery standby service. In addition, an experienced team offers close interdisciplinary follow-up care and accompanies patients throughout the entire process - from the acute phase to transfer to neurological rehabilitation, which is carried out in close cooperation with network partners.

In addition to clinical care, the center is closely involved in research and teaching at the MHH. The main focus is on research into neurovascular mechanisms, the development of new treatment strategies for strokes and aneurysms and the systematic quality assurance of neurovascular therapies. Results from scientific projects flow directly into patient care. In collaboration with regional and international partners, the center works on the further development of neurovascular standards and actively participates in supra-regional research networks and multi-center studies.

The Neurovascular Center of the MHH is digitally networked with regional and national cooperation partners. Through professional exchange and common treatment standards, it makes a significant contribution to quality-assured neurovascular care in Lower Saxony.
