Blood donation and coronavirus
Dear blood donors and those willing to donate,
There is currently no longer a general obligation to wear a mask during your stay at our blood donation service. Anyone who would like to voluntarily continue wearing a medical face mask is of course welcome to do so.
In addition to the general information and donation requirements for blood donors, the following deferral periods currently apply:
- After illness due to a confirmed infection with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen or a respiratory illness with flu-like symptoms such as fever or cough, a deferral period of 4 weeks applies.
- After symptom-free infection with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, the deferral period is seven days.
Please note: After a vaccination against the coronavirus with the vaccines currently approved in Germany, blood donation is possible again the next day, provided no vaccination reactions have occurred.
If you have any questions about this or are unsure whether you can donate blood, please contact us by telephone on 0800 532 5325 or by email at Blutspendedienst@mh-hannover.de before you visit the blood donation service.
