Changes to the Publication Cost Statement

Publishing costs money. In the past, these costs were overwhelmingly financed centrally through the library. Starting in 2027, the costs will now be passed on largely to the authors or their departments. This applies in particular to the three major scientific publishers: SpringerNature, Elsevier, and Wiley. Switching to the closed-access option (opt-out) would have no impact on the costs. Furthermore—though to a lesser extent—funding will continue to be available through the publication fund, which can be used to finance individual articles.

Since the contracts with the publishers vary greatly, please check the Publisher Agreements page for the current terms and conditions. Once the procedure for 2027 has been finalized, we will provide an update here.
