Qualification objectives

The module covers methods of digital image analysis and the visualization of medical image data. Students learn that the acquisition, processing and visualization of images are part of routine medical practice. They learn that the classic processing chain of image analysis is divided into the parts discretization, image restoration, image enhancement and segmentation and become familiar with basic concepts. You will also learn which methods are used to visualize image data and segmentation results in radiological workstations (volume/surface rendering).

Competencies

After successfully completing the module, students will be able to classify and compare digital images of the human body. They will be able to distinguish and assign linear and non-linear filters. They will have developed the ability to segment, classify and quantify biomedical images. You will be able to apply and evaluate model-based methods of image analysis. They can decide which visualization method should be used for a specific clinical task and can parameterize the method appropriately.
