Doctoral opportunities at the MHH
Doctoral programs of the Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS)
The HBRS is an interdisciplinary graduate school for physicians (MD/PhD, MBBS, Dr. med.) and natural scientists (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, etc.).
The HBRS was founded in 2003 and serves students from more than 40 countries. In October 2006, it was honored as part of the Excellence Initiative and is still part of the DFG Clusters of Excellence"REBIRTH" (MHH),"Hearing4all" (Oldenburg/ MHH) and"RESIST" (MHH).

The Center for Infection Biology(ZIB) is a cross-university facility or Institutions and is supported by almost 50 working groups dedicated to infection medicine issues and located at the Hannover Medical School, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, the University of Hannover, the Twincore and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig. The PhD program "Infection Biology" is open to people who have successfully completed a university degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or natural sciences and is intended to provide project-oriented postgraduate training in research with the aim of enabling in-depth independent scientific work and an extended professional qualification for tasks in research or related activities in the field of infection biology.
The MD/PhD study programmes "Molecular Medicine" is aimed at medical physicians and natural scientists with a state examination or M. Sc. degree and prepares students for research-based science in a project-oriented manner. The English-language interdisciplinary program runs for three years. In addition to research work, the curriculum also includes key qualifications such as research and medical ethics, scientific writing and presentation. Students complete their studies with a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) or Dr. rer. nat. degree. The following Facilities or Institutions are involved in the "Molecular Medicine" study programmes:

- Leibniz University of Hanover
- Fraunhofer Institute Hannover (ITEM)
- Helmholtz Center for Infection Research Braunschweig (HZI)
- Twincore (Hanover)
- NIFE (Hanover)
The Cluster of Excellence REBIRTH (From Regenerative Biology to Reconstructive Therapy) has initiated the international PhD study program "Regenerative Sciences". This study programme is also located under the umbrella of HBRS and is intended to enable a research career in the field of regenerative medicine and benefits from the intensive cooperation within the REBIRTH Cluster of Excellence. The Cluster of Excellence REBIRTH focuses on research into diseases of the organ systems blood (including immunity), heart, lungs and liver. Synergies are developed by bringing together a broad spectrum of experts with profound background knowledge.
The Center for Systems Neuroscience(ZSN), which is made up of working groups from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Hannover Medical School, the University of Hannover and the Hannover University of Music and Drama, has established the PhD program " Systems Neuroscience". The PhD program provides project-oriented postgraduate training in neuroscientific research with the aim of enabling students to carry out in-depth, independent scientific work and gain advanced professional qualifications for tasks in research or related fields of activity.
