Laboratory practicals
As part of the Master's degree program in Biomedicine, two laboratory internships of at least 6 weeks (10 CP each) must be completed. These internships can be completed in a research group at the MHH (internal) or externally. External internships, as well as internships that are to be completed in research groups that have not previously supervised biomedicine students, must be applied for and approved by the Examination Board.
Internships are not graded, but must be graded as "passed" in order to be credited with the 10 credit points. According to the module catalog, 70% of this assessment is based on the oral/practical performance in the laboratory and 30% on the protocol/work report of at least six pages.
External laboratory internships
Laboratory internships that are supervised outside the MHH (industry, abroad, etc.) must always be approved in advance by the Examination Board. Students must find an internal supervisor (a member of the MHH teaching staff) before the start of the external laboratory internship, who will review the protocol after completion.
Supervisors of external laboratory internships and Master's theses must submit a declaration before the start of the laboratory work that the data collected in the laboratory protocol (or Master's thesis) may be viewed by the members of the Study Commission or Examination Board. The submission of the declaration and a checklist of the documents to be submitted when applying for an external laboratory internship can be found on the MHH learning platform (ILIAS) for the students concerned.
The laboratory protocols (as a PDF file) must be submitted to the respective supervisors and the Coordination Office in their final form for evaluation no later than six weeks after completion.
Master's thesis
The Master's thesis is intended to establish the ability to work scientifically on a comprehensive topic from a biomedical discipline. 30 credit points are awarded for passing the module "Master's thesis with scientific writing and colloquium" (BMP 10).
The Master's thesis is usually completed in the 4th semester (completion time = 6 months). It must be requested in advance from the degree program coordinator and approved by the Examination Board. As a rule, Master's theses are completed at the Institutes of the MHH; external Master's theses are permitted, but must also be applied for in advance from the Examination Board.
Offers for Master's theses are sent to students by email by the program coordinator.
