"Our Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery offers the entire spectrum of hepatic, biliary and pancreatic surgery at the highest level. We are part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Lower Saxony (CCC-N), which is supported by the German Cancer Aid as an Oncological Center of Excellence. This allows us to provide state-of-the-art treatment of malignant tumors and their metastases in an interdisciplinary coordinated manner in tumor boards. The annual report 2022 of the German Cancer Society (DKG) confirms our special expertise in the treatment of liver cancer. With approximately 100 primary cases, the certified liver cancer center of the MHH is among the TOP 3 in Germany.

Through the development of pioneering surgical techniques, our department has been making a significant contribution to progress in this field for many years. Our special expertise in minimally invasive surgery allows us to perform even the most difficult procedures on the liver and bile ducts either laparoscopically or with the da Vinci Xi surgical robot. Accordingly, our team is one of the pioneers of robotic pancreatic head resection, which is considered particularly complex. As the largest transplant center in Germany, we also examine alternatives to resection in tumor boards, e.g. the option of liver transplantation. An individually tailored surgical preparation and follow-up care allows us to offer the treatment gently and safely.
