Prof. Dr. med. Benjamin Maasoumy - Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Dr. med. Benjamin Maasoumy is a senior physician and working group leader in the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School. He is a specialist in "Internal Medicine" and a specialist in "Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology". He also holds the designations ABS expert (Antibiotic Stewardship), infectiologist (DGI), the additional designation "Emergency Medicine" and is a certified examiner for abdominal ultrasound (DEGUM II).
Prof. Dr. Dr. Maasoumy studied medicine in Hanover, Manchester and Cape Town. His doctoral thesis focused on the role of various transcription factors in liver regeneration. After obtaining his license to practice medicine in 2011, he began his specialist training at the Clinical Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School. Prof. Dr. Dr. Maasoumy has been a specialist in internal medicine since 2018. He qualified as a specialist in "Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology" in 2020. His clinical and scientific work focuses on the treatment of liver diseases. A particular focus here is on infectious liver diseases (e.g. viral hepatitis) and the complications of liver cirrhosis. Prof. Dr. Dr. Maasoumy has headed a scientific working group on this topic since 2017. The results of his research have been published in numerous original papers. In 2018, Prof. Dr. Maasoumy received the "Venia legendi" (habilitation) for the subject "Experimental Internal Medicine", which was extended to the subject "Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology" in 2021. In 2022, he was appointed "Associate Professor".
As a senior physician, Prof. Dr. Dr. Maasoumy heads the "Liver Cirrhosis and Portal Hypertension" department and is deputy head of the "Liver Transplantation" department. In "Outpatient Hepatology", he is particularly responsible for liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension and viral hepatitis.
