Honorary membership

Prof. Dr. med. Joachim K. Krauss was awarded honorary membership of the Sociedad Española de Neurocirugía Funcional y Estereotáctica (SENFE) on 29 September 2017 at the society's annual meeting in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Scholarship

Ms. Gökce Hatipoglu Majernik, Assistant Physician at the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery, was awarded a scholarship from the German Society for Neuroscientific Assessment (DGNB) e.V. to participate in the advanced training curriculum "Neuroscientific Assessment". The scholarship is endowed with €870.

WSSFN Meeting

The "17th Quadrennial Meeting" of the "World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN)" took place in Berlin. With 974 participants from 62 countries, the congress was the most successful in the society's 55-year history.

The congress also marked the end of Prof. Dr. med. Joachim K. Krauss' term of office as President of the world society. A particular achievement of Prof. Krauss was the affiliation of six continental and regional societies under the umbrella of the World Society.

Prof. Krauss opens the multi-day congress in Berlin as President of the WSSFN.

Prof. Krauss gives anniversary lecture at Patient University

Announcement

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Patient University at Hannover Medical School, Prof. Joachim K. Krauss, Director of the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery, together with Prof. Dr. Reinhold Dengler, Emeritus Clinic for Neurology, gave the lecture "Parkinson's and typical companions - diagnostics and therapy" for the anniversary series. 68th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Neurosurgery

Dr. Saryyeva

At the 68th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Neurosurgery in Magdeburg, the following prizes were awarded to employees of the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery on the subject of "interventional neuromodulation":

  • Ms. Regina Rumpel received a lecture prize for the presentation "Neuronal firing activity and molecular findings in the basal ganglia after striatal transplantation of dopamine neurons in hemiparkinsonian rats". Further authors are M. Alam, A. Ratzka, J. K. Krauss, C. Grothe, K. Schwabe.
  • Ms. Anne Beck was awarded the Young Investigator Prize for her work on "The Centromedian-Parafascicular Complex may signal behaviorally relevant events". Other authors are K. Schwabe, M. Abdallat, P. Sandmann, R. Dengler, J. K. Krauss.

The prizes were donated by Medtronic GmbH. Each prize is endowed with € 500.00.

Dr. Assel Saryyeva, Senior Physician at the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery was awarded the "Traugott-Riechert Prize" 2017 for her research project entitled: "Involvement of thalamic nuclei and regions of the basal ganglia in auditory perception and processing". The prize is endowed with €5,000 and was donated by Medtronic for research projects in functional neurosurgery.

Establishment of a common guideline

After two years of work, the first joint guideline of the German Society of Neurology (DGN) and the German Society of Neurosurgery (DGNC) on the diagnosis and treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus was finalized by a group of experts. Prof. Krauss, Director of the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery/ MHH, for the DGNC and Prof. Paulus, Director of the Clinical Department of Neurophysiology at the University Medical Center Göttingen, for the DGN, were in charge. The scholarship is endowed with €870 each.
