Update Neurooncology
This year, the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery used the social media platform Instagram to draw attention to World Brain Tumor Day.
Brain tumors are rare compared to other cancers and are hardly noticed by the general public. To raise awareness, the Neurooncology Center at Hannover Medical School posted a story on Instagram about the treatment of glioma.
The story was seen by around 2,900 people within 24 hours of being uploaded. The reel has been replayed 7,815 times so far and is still available on the Hannover Medical School's Instagram account.
Ms Kauffmann, nursing expert APN (Advanced Practice Nurse) at the Neurooncology Center (NOZ), conducted a survey of NOZ patients on the topic of "Specialist nursing oncological advice and support, especially in the postoperative treatment phase". This revealed a consistently high level of satisfaction with this advice and support, which patients and their relatives are happy to make use of.

150 years of the German Society for Surgery
The German Society of Surgery (NCH from 3:45min) was founded 150 years ago. It is the umbrella organization of a total of 10 specialist societies, including the German Society for Neurosurgery. To mark the 150th anniversary, a film was produced which is representative of the progress made in the respective specialist disciplines.
For neurosurgery, a surgical procedure from the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery at Hannover Medical School was shown as an example. The procedure involved bilateral deep brain stimulation performed by Prof. Krauss, Dr. Saryyeva, Dr. Runge and Dr. Nagel.

Farewell to Petra Paul Head of Ward 26
In April 2022, the ward manager of Ward 26, Ms. Petra Paul, took her well-deserved retirement.
Ms. Paul began her training as a nurse in 1992 at the age of 34. She came into contact with the field of neurosurgery as early as 1995 and has since undergone regular further training as a specialist for management tasks in Nursing. In 2004, she took over the management of Ward 35 (the mother ship of the nursing units in the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery), which later moved to Ward 26.
Ms. Paul has been one of the main constants in the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery over the years. Since Prof. Krauss took over the Clinical Department in 2005, there has been a close and trusting working relationship. Regular physician-nurse meetings were established. Any problems that arose could be addressed and resolved via the short official channels. For many decades, Mrs. Paul embodied the ideal of a leading nurse in an exemplary manner, who always faced up to the changing times with joy in the joint work. Her words have a special meaning today: "I would choose this profession again at any time, even if it wasn't always a walk in the park"!
We, all the staff at the Clinical Department of Neurosurgery, would like to thank Ms. Paul for the wonderful collaboration and wish her all the best for the future.
