Out and about with nursing staff in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
In the cardiac catheterization laboratory (CCL), complex procedures are carried out on the most important muscle in our body using state-of-the-art technology. We accompany Bernadette and Carsten. Both have been working as nurses in this Department of the MHH for several years.
Information on the functional area
Welcome to our website
Our focus is on the individual care of our patients, taking into account their psychosocial situation.
We work in multiprofessional teams in three hybrid catheter laboratories and care for our patients in a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the coronary vessels, heart valves and electrophysiological interventions.
The care of cardiologically ill patients is based on the latest therapeutic approaches and treatment methods. Participation in internal and external training is an integral part of our Human Resources program and supports the goal of high-quality cardiological diagnostics and therapy.
New colleagues are introduced to their tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by us, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
Our team consists of qualified specialists, and employment is full-time and part-time.
We work in two shifts on weekdays; outside of these core working hours, we provide emergency care around the clock via an on-call service.
Our range of tasks includes:
- Individual patient care. Before, during and after the procedure, we are the first point of contact for both inpatients and outpatients
- Management of the daily program. We coordinate the procedures and ensure the greatest possible safety in the process.
- A good technical understanding of the latest equipment is a basic requirement for working in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- The preparation and follow-up of all procedures in compliance with hygiene standards, as well as the handling of sterile materials and working in the hybrid laboratories under sterile conditions.
- Documentation during treatment in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, as well as recording materials and treatment results during the examination.
- Certified crimp nurses prepare the valve components for an aortic valve replacement as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- We offer a high degree of flexibility and master the greatest challenges as a team.
- To ensure good cooperation, we organize regular, interdisciplinary team meetings.
